Bonus blackjack is not a blackjack bonus, but is in fact an innovative blackjack variant offered by a small number of blackjack sites. Unfortunately, the bonus blackjack side bet game is hard to find online. The game is not available in any US blackjack friendly casinos. Introduction To Bonus Blackjack
Bonus Blackjack is a variant of online blackjack offered by the casino software provider Microgaming. It belongs to the genre of blackjack variants that offer an independent side bet. In Bonus Blackjack players have to wager on the main blackjack game before placing the bonus bet. However players can wager on the main blackjack game without placing any bonus bet. The main bet is also referred to as the hand bet and the bonus bet is also referred to as the jackpot bet.
Bonus Blackjack Rules
Bonus Blackjack is played with two regular decks. The game begins by the player placing the hand bet in the larger circle and the bonus bet in the smaller circle, which is marked ‘Jackpot’. In Microgaming Bonus Blackjack the maximum limit for the hand bet is 2,000 credits and the maximum limit for the bonus bet is 25 credits. The player then clicks the Deal button and two cards are dealt face up for the player and one card dealt face up and the other card dealt face down for the dealer.
The bonus bet is decided on the basis of the two dealt cards to the player. If these cards are the jack and ace of spades then the player receives a payout of 50 to 1 on his bonus bet. If these cards are suited jack and ace of hearts, diamonds or clubs then the player receives a payout of 25 to 1. If both the cards are other cards of the same suit then the player receives a payout of 5 to 2. In all other cases the bonus bet loses.
The main hand is then played in the normal manner. If the dealer’s face up card is an ace the player can take insurance. If the dealer has a blackjack then the insurance bet pays 2 to 1, otherwise it loses. If the dealer’s face up card is an ace or a 10 value card then the dealer checks for blackjack. If the dealer has a blackjack then the player loses his hand bet immediately. The only exception to this is that if the player also has a blackjack then the bet is a push.
The player then makes his moves according to the following rules. The player can double on any two cards and even double after a split. The player can split three times to make four hands. Aces can be split only once and only one card can be dealt to split aces. A split ace and a 10 value card do not count as a blackjack but a total of 21, like any other total of 21. Unlike 10 value cards can be split. The dealer hits on soft 17, which is slightly advantageous to the dealer. The payouts for the main game are as follows. A player’s blackjack win pays out at 3 to 2. Any other win for the player pays out at 1 to 1. Ties push and the player gets his original wager back. If the dealer wins then the player loses his wager.
